Rev. Dr., Charles W. Wormley Sr., Pastor
Rev. Dr., Charles W. Wormley is currently serving in his 24th year as Pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Va. Mount Zion is where Rev. Dr. Charles W. Wormley's ministry began, being licensed into the Gospel in 1978 and ordained in 1980. Prior to returning to Mount Zion as Pastor, he served at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Madison County for over 15 years.
He is married to Rev. Patricia Wormley (formerly Patricia Smith) and they recently celebrated 50 years of matrimony. They are blessed with four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Rev. Dr., Charles W. Wormley was born and reared in Spotsylvania County. He received his early education in Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg public school systems. He graduated from Walker Grant High School in 1965. During his employment with the City of Fredericksburg, he was able to attend classes at Germanna Community College, University of Maryland, and Virginia Commonwealth University to ultimately receive a degree in Traffic Engineering and Electronics. In June of 1999, Pastor Wormley retired from the City of Fredericksburg as Superintendent of the Traffic Engineering Department with 34 years of service. Since retiring, he has completed studies at the Fredericksburg Bible Institute & Seminary achieving a Master's degree in Religious Education.
He has served in many capacities; leading and assisting the greater Christian community. He has served as the Clerk of the Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association, Moderator of the Ministers' and Deacons' Union of the Wayland Blue Ridge, and an instructor of the Wayland Blue Ridge Church Institute. He is the former Moderator of the Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association, Inc., having served five-year tenure 1998-2003. He is also affiliated with the Mattaponi Baptist Association, where he rose to 1st Vice Moderator. He served as the treasurer of the African-American Ministers Fellowship and Alliance of Spotsylvania.
The nature of the service provided by our Pastor and his wife is unique. God entrusted to them one of the most precious assignments; the spiritual well-being of this House of Zion and all the souls who enter. Rev. Dr., Charles W. Wormley is a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving as a living witness to all that the Son of God has done, is doing, and is going to do. He is led by the power of the Holy Spirit, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
